Our Story
Pathways Self-Directed Education Center began with a single request to support the homeschooling of a high school student and a deep conviction that the rigid structure of traditional public education often stifles true growth and development. This initial act of service sparked a larger vision: to reimagine education as a self-directed, Christ-centered journey that honors each student’s unique design and calling.
From those humble beginnings, Pathways has evolved into a developing education center offering flexible learning pathways for students ages 12–18. Rooted in faith and personalized learning, our programs blend academic support, mentorship, and real-world readiness to help students take ownership of their education and future.
Today, Pathways SDEC continues to grow, serving a small but diverse community of learners through customized virtual, in-person, and hybrid formats. At our core, we remain committed to cultivating purpose-driven young people equipped to lead with integrity, think critically, and walk confidently in both faith and life.
Our Approach
Philosophy of Education
At Pathways Self-Directed Education Center (SDEC), we believe that education is a transformative journey—one that develops the whole child: academically, spiritually, emotionally, and socially. Our philosophy is rooted in a biblical worldview that sees every learner as uniquely created by God, full of purpose and potential.
"We affirm that each student is fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14), and as such, education must be personalized, meaningful, and anchored in truth."
Learning is not just the acquisition of knowledge but also the cultivation of wisdom, character, and the development of God-given gifts. We embrace a self-directed, competency-based approach that prioritizes student voice and choice while providing structure, accountability, and support.
Through inquiry, innovation, and real-world learning, we encourage students to explore, reflect, and grow. We nurture leadership, critical thinking, and the courage to walk boldly in the purpose God has designed for them.
Education at Pathways is a partnership—between the student, family, educator, and God. In this collaborative environment, students are empowered to thrive, inspired to serve, and equipped to influence their communities and the world positively.
What Families Ask
How does self-directed learning work?
Self-directed learning allows students to take ownership of their education with guidance from mentors. Students set goals, choose learning pathways, and demonstrate mastery at their own pace.
Do you offer academic credit and transcripts?
Yes! We provide comprehensive documentation, transcripts, and diplomas for our students. Our courses align with state standards while offering greater flexibility and depth
What makes Pathways different from traditional schools?
Our Christ-centered, competency-based approach allows for personalized learning, flexible scheduling, student-driven, real-world experiences, and a supportive community where each student is known and valued.
How does your programming address the individual needs of students?
With virtual learning, as well as upcoming in-person and hybrid options, we support a diverse range of learners, including homeschoolers and those seeking a personalized educational experience. Each student receives a custom learning plan and mentorship, with opportunities for real-world learning through internships, dual enrollment, and service projects—all supported by innovative technology and a strong foundation in faith.
What is Competency-Based Learning?
At Pathways, the competency-based model means that students progress by demonstrating mastery of core concepts rather than advancing based on seat time or grade level. This approach allows each learner to move at their own pace, ensuring a deep understanding before they move on. This method is intended to cultivate confidence, independence, and lifelong learning habits.
What technology and resources are available?
We provide students access to high-quality educational technology and digital tools, including iPads with Apple Pencils, internet-enabled workspaces, and a library of learning resources for project-based learning and innovation. The center features collaborative learning spaces, quiet work areas, and breakout rooms. All students are supported with the technology and tools needed to succeed.
OUR FOUNDATION
Statement of Faith

Our commitment is that every student who walks through our doors will experience love, truth, and purpose—and leave equipped to inspire, create, lead, and make a lasting impact on the world around them.
